1. Summary
Voxium does not create user accounts, use advertising, include analytics SDKs, or operate a developer server that receives your documents, reading activity, or API keys. Your documents are stored on your device and, when available, in your private iCloud account.
2. Documents and Reading Data
Voxium lets you import PDFs, EPUBs, DOCX files, text files, webpages, and pasted text. The app stores the document title, text, source type, reading position, and your per-document voice preferences in its local app database. Exported audio files are stored on your device.
You can delete documents from the Voxium library. Deleting the app removes its local app data and any locally exported audio. Your iCloud data is handled by Apple and may remain subject to Apple's own retention and deletion processes.
3. iCloud Sync
Voxium uses Apple's CloudKit private database and iCloud key-value storage to sync your library, reading progress, and settings between your devices signed in to the same Apple ID. This data is stored in your private iCloud account, not on a Voxium server. If iCloud is unavailable or you are signed out, Voxium continues to work with data stored locally on your device.
4. On-Device Voice
Voxium includes an optional on-device voice. The voice model is downloaded on demand from Hugging Face when you choose to install it. The download contacts Hugging Face, but no document text is sent as part of that download. Once installed, the on-device voice processes narration entirely on your device and can work offline.
5. Optional Cloud Voices and Webpage Cleanup
Voxium can also connect directly to third-party services using an API key that you provide. These features are optional. When you select a cloud voice, the text needed to generate speech is sent from your device to the provider you selected. The provider returns generated audio to your device.
- MiniMax, ElevenLabs, and Fish Audio can generate speech using your own API key.
- Groq can optionally clean imported webpage text for clearer narration using your own API key.
These providers handle information under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not receive or store the text, audio, or API keys sent through these optional features.
6. API Keys
API keys that you add in Voxium are stored in your device's Keychain. They are not uploaded to our servers. You can remove a key at any time from the app's API Keys screen.
7. Webpage Imports
When you import a webpage, Voxium requests that webpage directly from your device so it can extract readable text. The website you import may receive ordinary request information such as your IP address and browser-style user agent, as with any webpage request made from your device. If you enable optional Groq cleanup, the extracted webpage text is also sent to Groq as described above.
8. Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising
Voxium does not use analytics services, advertising frameworks, behavioural tracking, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell or share personal information with advertisers.
9. Children's Privacy
Voxium is rated 4+. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, does not require an account, and does not include advertising. Parents and guardians should consider the privacy policies and terms of any third-party service before a child uses an optional cloud voice or webpage cleanup feature.
