True Velocity — Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

True Velocity ("the App") is developed by David Picknell. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the App on iPhone.

Privacy first: True Velocity does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data. GPS is used on-device to calculate real-time speed, and — only when you explicitly start a trip recording — to log a summary of that trip locally on your iPhone. If you enable Map Visualization, the GPS route coordinates for that trip are also saved locally on your device only. Your location and trip data never leave your device.

Location Data

True Velocity uses your device's GPS (Core Location) for the following purposes:

  1. Real-time speed display. GPS samples are processed on-device to drive the analogue dial and digital readout. These samples are not stored or transmitted.
  2. Trip recording (optional, user-initiated). When you tap the record button on the main screen, the App uses GPS samples to calculate your trip's duration, distance, average speed, and top speed. Tapping the button again ends the trip. Only the resulting trip summary is saved locally on your device.
  3. Map Visualization (optional, user-enabled). If you enable Map Visualization in the Trips settings, the GPS coordinates of your route are additionally saved locally on your device so the trip can be displayed on a map. This feature is off by default. Route coordinates are stored only on your device, are never transmitted, and are never shared.

Location data is never transmitted and never shared. When Map Visualization is disabled (the default), raw GPS coordinates and route paths are not stored. When Map Visualization is enabled, route coordinates are saved locally on your device only as part of the trip record.

Background Location

True Velocity is permitted to use location in the background only while you have explicitly started a trip recording. This allows the trip to remain accurate if your screen locks or you switch apps during the recording. The moment you stop the trip, background location updates are disabled. The App never accesses your location in the background outside of an in-progress trip you started yourself.

Trip Storage

Trip summaries are stored only on your iPhone, in the App's local database. If Map Visualization is enabled, GPS route coordinates are also stored locally as part of each trip record. Trips are not synced to iCloud, are not uploaded to any server, and are not accessible to the developer or any third party. If you delete the App, your trip history is removed with it. You can also delete individual trips at any time from the Trips list inside the App.

Data Collection

True Velocity does not collect personal data. No names, email addresses, location history, device identifiers, or usage analytics are collected by the developer.

Local Processing

All speed calculations and trip statistics are performed locally on your device.

No external servers are used for any feature of the App.

Analytics & Tracking

True Velocity does not use analytics services, advertising frameworks, tracking technologies, or third-party SDKs.

No behavioural data, crash analytics, or usage statistics are collected.

In-App Purchase & iCloud

True Velocity includes a seven-day trial period. After the trial ends, a one-time purchase is required to unlock continued use.

All payments are processed securely by Apple through Apple's In-App Purchase system. The developer does not receive or store your payment information.

To allow your purchase and trial status to follow you across your own devices, the App stores a small purchase-status record (whether you have unlocked the App, and the start time of your trial) in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit. This record is accessible only to you, on devices signed in to your own Apple ID, and contains no location data, no trip data, and no personal information. The developer cannot access this record.

Apple's handling of payment and iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. No accounts or personal identification are required to use the App.

Changes to This Policy
